I started this blog a long time ago because I liked writing. At that point I'd already done a lot of travelling, so it seemed like a good theme. Somewhere along the way I lost my enthusiasm for visiting foreign countries, but you'll still find many good articles here about Japan, China and Spain.
The theme of this blog now is wine. I work in the trade, I have had some great experiences, and it's a limitless subject to write about.
I once devoted several years to writing a doctoral thesis, which probably wasn't a very good idea. The experience was beneficial in one respect, however. I read so many books that distilling them into a few hundred words became second-nature to me. Most of my blog posts these days are reviews of books about wine.
The Narrow Corner is the name of a book by W. Somerset Maugham. He had a rare talent for storytelling, and his writing has brought me great pleasure. The name of the blog is a homage to him.
